dcarbon8 commissioned to footprint embodied carbon of Lend Lease’s Somerset Development in Singapore
25th January 2008
dcarbon8 is delighted to announce that it has been commissioned by Lend Lease to carry out a full embodied carbon impact assessment of the construction of a premier retail site in Singapore. The Somerset Project, located at Singapore’s key retail hub, is adjacent to the Somerset Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) station, with a 95-metre street frontage onto Orchard Road and a 70-metre exposure to Somerset Road.
The site, which will also provide a pedestrian link between Orchard and Somerset
Roads, is zoned for retail usage and is forecast to deliver over 28,000 square metres of quality retail space. Upon completion in 2009, the Somerset Project is anticipated to be worth in excess of S$1.2 billion (approximately US$844 million).
Lend Lease will manage all phases of the project, including, development, leasing, project management and construction, and asset and property management of the completed centre. Ground works are currently underway.
dcarbon8 is working with Lend Lease using details from the Bill of Quantities to calculate the predicted embodied carbon footprint of the construction, forming an embodied carbon benchmark. Furthermore, dcarbon8 is providing a detailed breakdown and map of Lend Lease’s Asian supply chain and operational carbon, enabling detailed carbon reductions to be planned within the Somerset Central, and other future projects.
